- China has a much lower GDP per capita than developed countries.
- China is a manufacturing giant but China' s GDP per capita is low, so domestic consumption is also low and it makes China heavily dependent upon trade. US navy will all it' s power makes China pretty uncomfortable.

- China also faces a lot of pressure from powerful neighbouring countries such as Japan, India, South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan and a lot of others all of whom make it difficult for China to establish their dominance.
Writer' s note: US can easily cooperate with China' s neighbours to contain China and most of China' s neighbours have fairly good relations with the US.
Most countries try to contain other nations from establishing their hegemony, US uses Japan against China and China uses Pakistan against India. The pursuit to contain other nations from becoming powerful in the long causes the downfall of the superpower itself. This is something, you should always keep in your mind, never try to prevent others from succeeding, try to cooperate with them, it really helps.

A telling example is the case of Australia. Australia is richly endowed with natural resources and the economy of Australia is heavily dependent upon the export of natural resources through international trade. China is Australia's biggest trading partner mainly due to China's strong demand for iron ore, coal and liquefied natural gas.
ReplyDeleteFor trade to occur Australia needs the Seas and the seas are dominated by the US navy. US navy can easily set up naval blockades such as in the Strait of Malacca to contain both Australia and China, essentially choking their economies. Even though relations between Australia and China are warm, but if forced to choose, Australia would side with the US, should the US threaten to set up naval blockades.
Historically too we have seen Australia fight American wars because of it' s dependency on US navy and recently too Australia supported the United States in the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 and the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
Another really important thing that contains China is that USA has friendly or weak neighbours, But china' s neighbours aren't easy pushovers.
